Turbulence models are necessary because we cannot afford big enough computers to directly capture every scale of motion. This term is known as Reynolds stress. Chapter 5 discusses selection of physical models available as user options. One reason is that CFD still uses models that need to be validated for each new application area (like turbulence and two-phase flow or phase change models). There are various turbulence models available in order to represent, Reynolds stress in terms of mean quantities. Selection of proper turbulence model is one of the most important step in a CFD project. The addition of these new turbulence models provides a broader selection of turbulence modeling options within AcuSolve. A wide range of built-in turbulence models for high and low-Reynolds number flows; LVEL model for turbulence in congested domains and a variety of K-E models, including RNG, two- scale and two-layer models. TURBULENCE MODELLING IN CFD 7.1 Turbulence models for general-purpose CFD 7.2 Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) models 7.2.1 Linear eddy-viscosity models 7.2.2 Non-linear eddy-viscosity models 7. The scientific approach is based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) using large-eddy type turbulence modeling (LES), standard spray models, and the Linear-Eddy Model (LEM) as a sub-grid combustion model. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is one of the branches of fluid mechanics that uses numerical methods and algorithms to solve and analyze problems that involve fluid flows. Gas is introduced at the bottom of column which causes turbulent stream and thus provide required stirring action for reactive gas exchange. As is appropriate for single phase CFD, most of the emphasis is on selection of turbulence models.
